I started at my previous company in logistics. No fancy degree, just a willingness to learn and a lot of reps on the ground. From there I moved into product sourcing, then Product Manager, then National Product Manager, then Head of Operations. Six years. Earned every rung.

My core work for those years was sourcing, developing, and building products — working directly with Chinese and Southeast Asian factories to create better versions of what was already on the market. We weren't just importing. We were designing, prototyping, pushing innovation, and pressure-testing suppliers. I made factory trips, ran audits, negotiated terms, and walked floors.

That experience shaped how I think about ethical manufacturing. I saw factories doing it right, and plenty doing it wrong. I learned to read a supply chain from the inside out, to push back on exploitative practices, and to insist on pay and conditions that actually held up. Those principles came with me to the Philippines.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, my team and I won a tender with Australia's biggest hardware company. A million ladders, one shipment, the kind of deal that ends careers if it goes wrong. The trip overseas to sign it still feels unreal. That's the kind of thing you can do when a business trusts you with real responsibility.

But the part that stuck was the Philippines.

I spent 6+ years building offshore teams there for Australian companies. Recruited, onboarded, trained, and scaled them up. Watched how it was done. Watched how agencies marked up salaries 3x, how candidates got paid below market while clients got overcharged, how the entire industry ran on opacity.
